LOCAL INDEX
A TRAVEL COMPANION CURATED BY LOCALS OF THE GREATER BARCELONA REGION

About Local Index BCN

Travel with Care. Move like a Local.

Barcelona isn't just a postcard—it's a living, breathing city filled with stories, struggles, and soul. And yet, much of what travelers see is curated through the lens of convenience and consumption—an endless stream of tourist traps, overpriced rentals, and crowded streets.

Local Index BCN was born as a response to that. A quiet rebellion disguised as a travel companion.

We Believe Travel Should Be Mutual

Tourism shouldn't be extractive. It should be a respectful exchange.

At Local Index, we help visitors explore the city while honoring the people who call it home. That means:

  • Avoiding protest zones and high-traffic disruptions, not just for your comfort, but to respect community actions.
  • Staying in places that don't displace families.
  • Spending money at local spots—owned and operated by neighbors, not faceless chains.
  • Skipping the overexposed sights when they're swamped, and finding equally stunning, quieter alternatives.

You get to see the real Barcelona. Locals get to keep living here.

Why This Matters

Barcelona is facing a housing crisis—fueled in part by the rise of short-term vacation rentals and tourism-driven development. Rent has skyrocketed. Working-class neighborhoods are becoming unrecognizable. Locals are being pushed out of their own city.

We believe travelers shouldn't contribute to this problem. Instead, they can be part of the solution.

Who We Are

Local Index BCN was started by someone who fell in love with Barcelona—but refused to fall into the role of a passive visitor. I'm a creative technologist, designer, and father living here in the city. Over time, I've come to know the rhythms of the neighborhoods, the impact of gentrification, and the tension between loving a place and unintentionally harming it.

This project is my way of making something different. A travel guide that slows things down. That centers the local experience. That doesn't just help you get around—it helps you show up the right way.
